Iarnrod Eireann management and workers enter talks

Published 14/10/2007

Management and unions at Iarnrod Eireann have agreed to enter talks at the Labour Relations Commission.

The discussions will get underway this afternoon and are aimed at avoiding disruption to thousands of rail passengers in the south of the country.

A one day strike - to begin at midnight - is planned by line inspection and maintenance staff, who are members of SIPTU and the NBRU, over concerns about work practices.

Services due to be affected include routes from Cork, Kerry, Ennis and Limerick, to Dublin, as well as commuter services in Cork.
