Ireland may accept two Guantanamo Bay detainees

Ireland looks set to accept two detainees from the US internment camp at Guantanamo Bay.

Foreign Affairs Minister Micheal Martin says the Government may allow two Uzbek men to resettle in Ireland once they are released by the Bush administration.

The Taoiseach gave a commitment to the Obama administration during his St Patrick's Day visit to the US that Ireland would accept a small number of Guantanamo prisoners.

The men are being released by the US because they pose no threat, but they can't be returned to their homeland because they would be at risk of torture.
