Irish aid worker expected to be released within 48 hours

There is growing optimism that an Irish aid worker kidnapped in Ethiopia earlier this week may be released within the next 48 hours.

Newspaper reports today claim the group responsible for the capture had mistaken Donal O'Suilleabhain and his Ethiopian colleague for foreign oil workers.

The United Western Somali Liberation Front posted a statement on a Somali website saying the two men would be released by tomorrow.

The 41-year-old Sligo man has been able to make phone contact with his colleagues in the area, and has assured them that he is safe and uninjured.
