Judgement expected in Co Cork couple's extradition case

Judgment is expected today in the extradition case involving a Co Cork couple who are wanted in the US for allegedly kidnapping their grandson two years ago.

Timothy and Ethel Blake, both in their 60s, of Lower Midleton Street, Cobh, were arrested in September last year.

Each face a charge of aggravated kidnapping, which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years if they are surrendered to the US authorities.

Their lawyers have argued that no official request for their extradition had been made by the US and that they were acting on an order of the Circuit Court here, which gave them custody of the then nine-year-old boy.

Mr Justice Michael Peart is set to decide on whether they should be extradited this morning.
