Jury being sworn in today for Fermoy man's murder trial

A jury is being sworn in for the trial of a man in his 50s accused of the murder of another man in Fermoy, Co Cork, over a year ago.

John Collins, with an address at Francis Street in Fermoy, has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter by reason of insanity.

This plea was not accepted by the State, however, and he will be tried for the murder of 60-year-old John Mahon who was shot dead close to his home at St Bernard's Place.

Mr Collins denies murder in February last year, but has pleaded guilty to possessing a shotgun and ammunition.
