Jury retires to consider verdict in GAA pitch assault case

Published 18/01/2007

The jury in the trial of a 31-year-old football player accused of assaulting an opposing team member on the pitch has retired to consider its verdict.

Ronan Mullins, of Wheatfield Road in Palmerstown, denies assaulting Damian Flanagan of Fingal Ravens and causing him harm during a game at Glenaulin Park in Palmerston in June 2003.

It is the State's case that Mr Mullins, a substitute for St Patrick's of Palmerstown, ran onto the pitch during a melee and punched Mr Flanagan in the face.
