Kilkenny solicitor has licence suspended by High Court

Published 05/10/2009

A Kilkenny solicitor has had his licence suspended at the High Court.

Padraig J Butler, whose practice is at 10 Lower Patrick Street in Kilkenny, is accused of dishonestly taking money from a deceased woman's estate.

The court was told that he charged the woman almost €1.2m in fees, even though he subsequently admitted that the correct fee should have been €500,000 plus VAT.

A Law Society investigation found that the fees should only have amounted to €300,000.
