Louth Gardai investigate third violent assault

Gardai in Co. Louth are investigating a third violent assault in less than a week.

The latest attack happened in Dundalk in the early hours of New Years Day morning.

The 25 year old victim received head and stomach injuries in the knife attack shortly before 6 o'clock this morning.

Gardai believe a knife or machete was incident that occurred in the Park Avenue area of Dundalk.

41-year-old Des Kimmins died after he was stabbed in the Rathmullan Park area of Drogheda in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 19 year old man has been charged in connection with the killing.

In a separate investigation, Gardai in Drogheda are continuing to question a 19 year old man about the death of Darren McKeown.

Mr. McKeown died in hospital on Saturday after he was assaulted at Rowan Heights in the town on St. Stephen's Day
