Man admits rape and murder of Sharon Coughlan
A central European man has pleaded guilty to raping and murdering 37-year-old mother-of-two Sharon Coughlan in Longford last September.
Nineteen-year-old David Brozovsky, with an address at Ardnacassa, Longford, entered guilty pleas this afternoon before Mr Justice Liam McKechnie.
The court heard that Sharon Coughlan was last seen leaving Tesco in the town at around 4.40pm on the September 15th last.
At around 7pm that evening, her 10-year-old daughter returned from the swimming pool to their house and found the house locked.
Her daughter raised the alarm and it later emerged that the landlord of a vacant house on Great Water Street had found a body in the bathroom of the house.
He made the grim discovery when he saw a bare foot protruding from under the bath.
Sharon Coughlan had been strangled to death.
David Brozovsky was tracked down after Gardai traced activity on the dead woman's mobile, which he had stolen and given to someone else who he had owed money to.
Today, he pleaded guilty to the rape and murder and the sentencing hearing is underway.
