Man held over Loughinisland murders in 1994

Police have arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with the Loughinisland murders in the North 14 years ago.

The man was detained in the English town of Maidstone yesterday in connection with the murder of six men at a pub in the Co Down town in June 1994.

He has been transferred to Antrim to be questioned by PSNI officers.

The victims of the shooting were watching the Republic of Ireland playing a football match at the World Cup when loyalist gunman burst into the premises and opened fire.

The UVF claimed responsibility for the murders, but nobody has ever been convicted.
