Man jailed for 11 years for raping and threatening to kill woman

A 26 year-old father of three was this afternoon jailed for 11 years for raping and threatening to kill a Latvian woman on her way to work.

Philip Murphy, with addresses at Elmbrook Crescent in Lucan and Lindisfarne Vale in Clondalkin, pulled the woman into his car as she was walking to work in June of last year.

The court heard he threatened to kill her if she didn't have sex with him.

He had denied the rape but the jury found him guilty in July of this year.

In jailing him for 11 years, Mr. Justice Paul Carney said he was clearly an enormous danger to society and directed that he be supervised for seven years after his release from prison.
