One in every eight Irish households had a broadband connection in the first quarter of this year, according to figures out today from the Central Statistics Office.
The rate is almost double that reported in the third quarter of 2005.
Elsewhere, the CSO says an estimated 59% of homes have computers, while virtually all businesses are now connected to the internet.
The rate of broadband use among businesses has almost doubled from 31% in 2004 to 61% this year.
