PSNI officer receives gunshot wounds.

A police officer in the North has been shot during disturbances in Carrickfergus.

The man has been taken to hospital, where his condition is not said to be life-threatening.

It follows a disturbance in the Carrickfergus area yesterday evening.

Police were called to Castlemara drive at about 10.30pm following reports that a large crowd had gathered.

Another man has been taken to hospital following a serious assault in the area, his condition is not known.

Three men stopped in a car in the Carrickfergus area have been arrested under terrorist legislation.

It's believed the incidents are connected to ongoing tensions within the loyalist community in the south east Antrim area.
