Public transport tickets prices to rise by 4-5% this week

The cost of using public transport is set to rise this week.

Bus, rail and Dart fares are to go up by an average of 5% from Wednesday, and Luas-goers will face price-hikes from tomorrow.

A single-use Luas ticket will cost 10 cent more, and 30-day tickets will be up to €2 more expensive.

This is higher than last year's price hike, but Luas operators say it is in keeping with inflation, and will cover the cost of maintenance work to be done this year.

Iarnrod Eireann is increasing its fares by about 5%, claiming the money is needed to cover rising fuel costs.

Single-fare Dart tickets will be 10 cent more expensive, and there will be a €4.50 increase in the cost of monthly tickets for commuter trains.
