The first volunteers in the new Rapid Response Corps are ready for deployment.
So far, 24 members have completed training and are currently on standby awaiting deployment to humanitarian emergencies overseas.
The first volunteer, Conor Lyons, from Tipperary, will leave early next week to join the UN World Food Programme in Sri Lanka.
