Published 10/06/2007

A search is underway in Galway following the disappearance of a swimmer on the River Corrib.

The woman was last seen on the river yesterday afternoon.

At the time she was wearing swimming gear and is understood to have entered the water close to Menlo Castle on the outskirts of the city.

The woman, who is in her 30s, was with a group of friends and when she did not rejoin the group later yesterday evening they became concerned.

Gardai are appealing to people using boats on the river or those walking along its banks to help in the search for the missing woman.
