Shannon woman faces trial for attempted murder over fire deaths

A married mother of three, who faces four charges of attempted murder following a fire at her home last year, was this afternoon sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

27-year-old Agnes O'Shaughnessy - of 12 Purcell Park, Shannon - appeared at Shannon District Court, where Judge Joseph Mangan was told that the Book of Evidence in the case had now been served on the accused.

Mrs. O'Shaughnessy is charged with the attempted murder of George O' Shaughnessy, 7-year-old twins Evan and Lee Hickey and Sophie O' Shaughnessy aged 3, on September 25th last year at 12, Purcell Park, Shannon Co Clare.

The accused was originally arrested two days after the alleged incident and charged with one count of endangerment and another of arson. She was later charged with four counts of attempted murder and faces six charges in all.

Judge Mangan sent Mrs O' Shaughnessy forward for trial to the present sitting of the Central Criminal Court.

The accused was released on continuing bail.
