Shoplifting Garda given one-year suspended sentence

A Sligo-based Garda has been given a one-year suspended sentence for shoplifting.

51-year-old Jarlath Naughton, with an address at Crozon Crescent in Sligo, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from supermarkets two years ago.

He has been suspended from the force since December 2005.
