Statutory rape charge withdrawn against seventh man

Published 03/11/2006

A charge of statutory rape has been withdrawn against another man at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

It follows a week when six men, including Mr C, had similar charges against them dropped.

Today's case involves a 28-year-old Dublin man who had not yet entered a plea to a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under 17 years of age between December 1st 2003 and January 27th 2004.

A nolle prosequi was entered on behalf of the DPP.

There was no mention in court as to whether the State intends to bring fresh charges against him.

Mr C and five others were re-arrested on Wednesday as soon as they left the court and were charged with the lesser offence of sexual assault.
