Two men killed as van and car crash

Two men have died after a car accident in Co Cavan

An investigation is under way after a road crash which left two men dead.

A third man is in a serious condition in hospital after the crash involving a van and a car in Virginia, Co Cavan.

Gardai said the van driver, who was in his late 20s, and his passenger, aged in his late 30s, died.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was taken to Cavan General Hospital and later moved to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

His condition is said to be serious but not life-threatening.

The accident happened on the N3 near Lisduff at 10.30pm on Wednesday.

"The collision is under investigation and the road at the scene of the crash is closed to facilitate the examination of the area by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators," added a garda spokesman.
