Two seriously injured in N4 pile-up

Two people have been seriously injured in a pile-up on the N4.

They were amongst 9 people who were rushed to hospital in Mullingar following a two-car head-on smash near Ballinalack on the Longford-Westmeath border.

The accident happened just after 3 o'clock this afternoon on the main Sligo to Dublin road.

It caused major delays for a time but part of the road has now re-opened.

Gardai are at the scene directing traffic.
