Two university presidents receive unauthorised allowances

Published 28/10/2007

It's reported that the heads of two universities have received unauthorised allowances on top of their approved salaries.

According to today's Sunday Tribune, details of the payments to the presidents of UCD and NUI Galway emerged during a review of public sector pay.

Extra allowances are not permitted under the national pay policy, unless approved by the Ministers for Education and Finance.

A pay freeze has now been imposed until the payments are withdrawn, and an investigation is expected.
