Weather turns cold as northerly winds take hold

Published 06/04/2008

Many parts of the country are waking up to wintry temperatures and snow showers this morning.

Earlier this week, temperatures of 18 degrees celsius were recorded, but these have plummeted today as cold northerly winds from the arctic take hold.

Snow and sleet showers will continue for the rest of the morning and afternoon, and it will stay chilly for most of the week.

Met Eireann says it is colder than it should be, but this weather is not unusual.
