Wexford men jailed for 3 years for possession of pipe bomb

Three Wexford men have been jailed for three years after pleading guilty to possessing a home-made pipe bomb just over a year ago.

Robert Kearns, of Redshire Road in Murrintown, Jackie Bates of Jacketstown House in Drinagh, and Billy Phillips of Harbour View in Maudlintown have also pleaded guilty to ammunition charges.

The device was found by Garda€ investigating the activities of the Continuity IRA in Wexford last March.

But the Special Criminal Court said today that none of the three men have been convicted of membership of that organisation.
