Annan seeks more courage in tackling climate change
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has called on the world to be more courageous in tackling climate change.
Speaking at a UN conference on the matter in Nairobi, Mr Annan lamented a "frightening lack of leadership" in fashioning the next steps to succeed the Kyoto Protocol on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In an apparent swipe at the United States, he warned world leaders that it would be more costly to deal with uncontrolled global warming than to reduce emissions.
The Bush administration is refusing to ratify the Kyoto treaty on the grounds that it would be too costly for the US economy.
