EU leaders reach draft deal on climate change
EU leaders have reached a draft agreement on climate-change funding targets that will be presented to the rest of the world at international negotiations in Copenhagen later this year.
The agreement proposes a €100bn-a-year plan to cut global emissions.
Between €22bn and €50bn of this figure would come from public funding, with EU member states footing €7bn to €10bn of this bill.
Agreement was reached on the figures after poorer member states received assurances that their share of the financial burden would be adjusted in line with their ability to pay, rather than simply assessed on national pollution levels.
