Red Cross and Red Crescent to be joined with new symbol

The Red Cross and Red Crescent are to be joined by a new symbol to represent the world's largest relief organisation.
The red crystal on a white background is in use from today as an alternative to the two existing emblems.
It comes after Israel rejected the use of the cross and crescent because of their links to Christianity and Islam.
The country's accession to the Red Cross was dependent on its recognition of the Palestinian Red Crescent organisation.
