A mandatory evacuation has been ordered in New Orleans, as Hurricane Gustav nears mainland Cuba.
The Category Four storm is already stronger than Hurricane Katrina was when it devastated the city in 2005.
Forecasters expect it to reach Category Five, the strongest possible.
Gustav has already killed at least 70 people across the Caribbean.
Residents began fleeing their homes in New Orleans yesterday, as the storm neared the Cuban coast with winds of 150mph.
