An animal shelter in the US has received a 36lb cat which is too big to fit into its kennels.

Meatball was handed into a shelter in Phoneix, Arizona, where he is currently staying in an office.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control said the cat is not available for adoption - i nstead, the shelter is trying to place him with a rescue organisation that helps overweight cats.

The shelter says Meatball is extremely friendly and can comfortably walk despite his weight.
