A driver is facing court action after traffic police pulled over a van with the front windscreen almost totally obscured by building materials.

Photographs of the white van posted on Twitter by West Midlands Police showed strips of plastic resting on its roof, windscreen and bonnet.

In a humorous tweet accompanying two pictures showing the inside and outside of the vehicle, officers from West Midlands traffic unit said: "Meanwhile in Aston yet more proof that just like fossil fuels, the UK's supply of common sense is in short supply!!!"

A police spokeswoman said the van was brought to a halt in Aston Hall Road, Aston, Birmingham, shortly before 2pm on June 18.

A 30-year-old woman, whose vehicle was seized, now faces prosecution for having no insurance and carrying a dangerous load.
