Boy dies after baseball hits head

An eight-year-old eastern Indiana boy has died after being hit on the head by a baseball.

The Marion County Coroner's Office said Dylan Williams died of blunt force trauma, two days after suffering the injury in Union City, about 75 miles north-east of Indianapolis.

Coroner's office manager Marchele Hall told the Indianapolis Star that a post-mortem examination showed the injury occurred on the right side of the boy's head and neck.

Dylan was hit by a ballthrown during a practice session on Tuesday evening. He was taken to a hospital in Winchester, then transferred to an Indianapolis hospital.

Union City Fire Chief Gary Moore told the (Muncie) Star Press that organisers of the baseball programme were arranging help and counselling for other children who witnessed the accident.
