'Cinderella' hunted after theft bid

Police in Co Durham are hunting a man who left a trainer behind after trying to steal cider from a shop

Police have issued an appeal for a "Cinderella" would-be thief who left his trainer at the scene of a crime.

A man tried to steal cider from the Co-op in Tyne Road in Stanley, County Durham, at 9.30pm last night.

For reasons unknown, he left a grey, red and black Nike Air Max trainer at the shop before fleeing.

Police tweeted a photo of the shoe, hoping someone might recognise it.

Officers from the Derwentside Division of Durham Police, using the @DsidePolice Twitter name, said: "At 21:30 on 27th a man tried to steal cider from the Co-op on Tyne Rd, Stanley leaving this trainer behind. Did you see him or know who he is? Info to PC2432 at Consett via 101 #cinderella"
