Driveway bones from 775AD: Police

Human bones found under a suburban driveway date from between 670 and 775AD, police said today.

The skeletal remains were found by workmen on a job in Riddlesdown Road, Purley, near Croydon in south London, earlier this month and sent off for anthropological analysis.

Scotland Yard said the forensic report would be passed to English Heritage, who have expressed further interest in the discovery as it is known that an ancient Saxon burial site is in the vicinity.
