Farmer fattens turkeys with beer

A turkey farmer in the US believes feeding his birds beer makes them tastier and more juicy

We've all heard of beer-battered fish - but what about beer-fed turkey?

A turkey farmer in the US has been feeding his birds beer since 1993, when one of them knocked over a can left near its fence and started drinking it.

Joe Morette, of Henniker in New Hampshire, believes beer bellies are not just a human phenomenon, and he insists the drink makes his birds fatter, more tasty and juicier.

Carl Majewski, of the UNH Co-operative Extension, says the beer does not hurt the birds, and probably does affect their size and flavour to some degree. But juiciness is more a matter of how you cook the birds, not what they drink, he added.
