Gerry Adams wins Beard of the Year by a whisker

Gerry Adams insisted his bid to engage with dissident republicans is not a stunt

Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams has been awarded top prize in the Parliamentary Beard of the Year race.

The award, presented annually by the Beard Liberation Front (BLF), is given to those who have given beards a positive image in the public eye.

Mr Adams’ facial hair has also earned him a place in the urban dictionary, where a ‘Gerry Adams’ is a beard covering 95% of a person’s face.
