Immigrants found in box under truck

Three adult Mexican immigrants were found crouched in a box under a recreational vehicle near San Diego (US Department of Homeland Security/AP)

Three Mexican immigrants have been found inside a wooden box carried under a recreational vehicle which was stopped at a checkpoint near the US-Mexico border, officials said.

US Border Patrol agents arrested the suspected illegal immigrants near San Diego after a sniffer dog raised suspicions about the truck.

Authorities opened the wooden box , which had a screwed-down lid, only to find three men curled inside.

The men, aged 17, 19 and 21, are being questioned.

The driver of the truck, and an 18-year-old passenger, who are both US citizens, were arrested on suspicion of migrant smuggling.
