Punters can cash in on royal birth
For those who like a flutter, the royal birth provides ample opportunity for a punt on facts and figures associated with the future monarch.
Bets can be made on a whole host of trivial items from the baby's hair colour to the date it will be born. With betting slips in hand thousands of people will be eagerly awaiting news about when the Duchess of Cambridge goes into labour.
The most popular bets with punters are around trying to guess the name of William and Kate's first child. During a royal engagement it was claimed the royal stopped herself from saying she was having a daughter so there have been a flurry of bets placed on girls' names.
The most popular name among punters is Alexandra whose odds have plummeted with two leading bookmakers. William Hill have seen the odds for the name fall from 33/1 to 5/2 and Paddy Power have reported a similar fall and has a price of 3/1.
Other popular names with William Hill are Charlotte 4/1, Elizabeth 5/1, Diana 6/1, Victoria 7/1, Mary 10/1 and George 12/1. While Paddy Power have Elizabeth 5/1, Charlotte 6/1, Victoria 7/1, and Diana and George at 8/1.
If your crystal ball has given you insight into the future you could try and put your money on how you think the baby will be born. It is likely the birth will be a natural one and Paddy Power have offered odds of 13/10 while a Caesarean section is 8/15.
The Countess of Wessex's two children were both delivered by caesarean so there is a precedent for royal births that are not straightforward. William Hill offered similar odds for their bets - caesarian 1/2 and a natural birth 6/4.
Hair colour is another piece of trivia that is attracting punters who have a stack of notes. William has light brown hair while his wife has famous dark locks but there is ginger in the family as Prince Harry famously has a red tinge to his mop.
Paddy Power's odds are brown 2/1, red and blonde both 11/4 and black 9/4 while William Hill have brown 6/4, blonde 2/1, black 7/2 and ginger 4/1.
And for the date the baby is born William Hill has offered a range of odds for dates in July with the 17th a favourite with punters with odds of 9/1.
