Santa Claus goes back to school

A new bunch of Father Christmases are graduating from a US Santa School

A school with a difference in the US state of Michigan has just celebrated a special graduation, with dozens of Santa Claus students passing a three-day seminar on all things jolly for the holidays.

More than 100 St Nicks made up the most recent class of the Charles W Howard Santa Claus School in the city of Midland.

The Santas, as well as some Mrs Clauses, received instruction on make-up, wardrobe, sign language, reindeer care and communication during their classes at the Howard school, which bills itself as the longest continuously running Santa Claus school in the world.

One student, Doug Dodge, attended his second Santa school this year, saying it was important to do everything possible to prepare to take on the "awesome responsibility" of portraying Father Christmas.
