Fultons rebirth could help store reach its potential
The news that Fultons is to be re-opened under new ownership with the creation of 40 jobs is great news for the retail sector as well as for those with cherished memories of that former iconic bastion of retail glory.
When a company like Fultons enters administration the death knell is usually sounded. But not in this instance.
The new owners have taken an extremely brave step and their plans for the future look ambitious but achievable if the new emporium manages to capture the hearts – and purses– of today's ever-changing consumer.
But that's the difficult part. It is of paramount importance that the new owners realise that the consumer has changed and in order to be successful they must continue to monitor consumer shopping and spending behaviour.
Some commentators would argue that that was where Fultons slipped: they had not kept abreast of consumer change in difficult economic and trading conditions.
I wish them every success.
