Balmoral 2010 will live long in the memory of Comber pedigree sheep breeder Kevin McCarthy.

By the end of the second day he had the Hampshire Down breed title and the Beltex reserve championship in the bag. And with the Inter-Breed Championship up for grabs today the prospects of Kevin coming home with more silverware look good.

Kevin has been a renowned exponent of lowland sheep breeding for a number of years. He won the Hampshire Down Championship with an exceptional two shear ewe and then followed this with a tremendously strong showing in the Beltex ring, this time with a shearling ewe.

Other notable prize winners in the sheep rings at Balmoral this year included Coleraine breeders Cyril Millar & T C Martin, who won the Texel Championship. William Donaldson, from Newry, won the Ile de France title while Limavady’s Julie Loughery came up trumps in the Blue Faced Leicester classes.
