'Fair Brexit' must be a key priority for next Government
The next Government needs to focus on "securing a fair Brexit" for consumers, a retail group has said.
Aodhan Connolly, director of the Northern Ireland Retail Consortium, was speaking as the organisation nationally released its priority list heading into the general election next month.
"Retail plays a vital role as the engine of the Northern Ireland economy, employing over 80,000," he said.
"With retailers facing enormous pressures from the changing market, rising input prices, and the burden of heavy public policy costs, it's imperative the parties give serious consideration to the measures they can take to support the industry.
"In particular the next government needs to focus on securing a fair Brexit for consumers.
"That requires a deal with the EU which delivers lasting tariff-free trade and ensures Northern Ireland shoppers aren't hit with the cost of unwanted new tariffs," he added.
