Aerospace company Bombardier has set out more of its plans for a site it has bought from the administrators of telecoms company Nortel.

The Canadian business is thought to be paying over the £5m asking price for the Monkstown complex, which will house 600 Bombardier staff.

Bombardier - the biggest corporate investor in Northern Ireland thanks to the 2008 £500m deal for wings for CSeries aircraft to be made in Belfast - said customer services administration was moving from the main base at Queen's Island to Monkstown near Newtownabbey where it could expand in the future.

A spokeswoman said the "fast-growing" customer services division included component and aircraft repair services for Bombardier and other aircraft.

She added that repair workshops were also being moved from rented accommodation in the Titanic Quarter to the new site.

The manufacture of specialist engine covers known as 'nacelles' was also being moved from Airport Road West to Doagh Road, to leave more room for work on the CSeries.

The spokeswoman added: "In practical terms, it will mean that we can bring together operations and offices which are currently spread over several sites."

Meanwhile, assembly, engineering and administrative HQ will remain in the Queen's Island area where a new CSeries wing factory is also being built.

Sheet metal work will stay in Newtownards with composite fabrication and assembly also remaining at part of the former De Lorean premises in Dunmurry.

Other fabrication will remain in Church Road, Newtownabbey although some will be transferred to Doagh Road.

A spokeswoman confirmed that relocation would start as soon as the deal was confirmed but could not say how long it would take.
