Director disqualified over taxes

A director at a plant hire company which failed to pay almost £160,000 in taxes has been disqualified for five years.

Gary Gerard Haughey (31) of Sultan Road in Carrickmore, Omagh, is the latest person to be disqualified in respect of his conduct as a director of the company.

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment had previously accepted disqualification undertakings for seven years and five years from two other directors of PFG Plant Hire Limited in January 2012, and six years from another director in February 2012, in respect of their conduct as directors of the same company.

Based on the Dromore Road in Omagh, the firm went into liquidation in October 2009 with assets estimated to realise £100,000, liabilities of £513,735 to non-preferential creditors, and an estimated deficiency as regards non-preferential creditors of £413,735.

The department accepted the disqualification undertaking from Mr Haughey in September 2012, based on unfit conduct including causing and permitting the company to fail to pay over a total of £158,188 properly due to the Crown for PAYE, NIC and VAT.
