Energy company SSE has announced that it has plans to create 100 jobs in the Republic as part of a €500m (£400m) investment.
The owner of Airtricity and Phoenix Supply is taking over the Irish business of Endesa Generacion and also expects that 600 construction jobs will be created over the next two years.
"The announcement is part of SSE's commitment to Ireland, serving customers, employing people, and providing a sustainable, secure and competitive supply of energy to power our rapidly growing energy supply business, Airtricity," said SSE director Gregor Alexander. The completion of this acquisition and that of Phoenix Supply ... will make SSE the third largest energy company across the island with 750,000 customers. Furthermore, it will take SSE's total investment into the future of Irish energy to over €1.7bn (£1.37bn) in the last five years. It reflects SSE's long-term commitment to the Irish market and is a vote of confidence in the Irish economy."
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said the investment was a sign of confidence in the country.
