Export boost is something to Smiley about

A LISBURN company has reported a 123% growth in export business in just a year.

Conveyor belt and screening company Smiley Monroe has won contracts in Trinidad and Tobago, India and the USA in recent months.

The firm, which last year opened an office near Bangalore in India, also sells to the UK and Ireland, Europe, Canada, Africa and Australasia

Vaughan Monroe, managing director of the company, which employs 80 people at its manufacturing base in Knockmore Hill Industrial Estate, hailed Invest NI for its support.

"We have taken part in a number of Invest NI trade initiatives, including exhibitions in the US, UK and India, to enable us to exploit market opportunities in markets such as India," he said.

"By staying in touch with markets and particularly customers, we've been able to respond quickly to their requirements."

Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI trade director, added: "This is an immensely important achievement by a company operating in a highly competitive marketplace and against a difficult global business environment.

"The success is based on a strategic focus on existing and potential clients in both established markets such as the US and Europe and also developing nations especially India.

"The firm recognised that growth is possible by strategically investing resources in developing the closest possible relationships with customers."
