Fireplace firm burning bright despite recession

Lisburn fireplace company Geddis Enterprises has made the bold decision of investing almost £2m in a new showroom complex — despite the onset of recession.
The firm, which sells, installs and manufactures fireplaces, opened its new double storey, 17,000 sq ft facility at Moira Road in Lisburn earlier this month.
Alexander McLuckie, managing director of Geddis, said he expects the investment to pay off, even in a downturn.
“Our aim was to create a destination experience for architects and interior designers, as well as enhancing our offer to homeowners and developers,” he said.
“Feedback from the professional design fraternity has suggested there is a strong and current demand for this type of high-end niche approach to fireplace retailing. While the opening of a facility like this may be regarded by some as untimely, we are really excited about the prospect of getting up and running,” added Mr McLuckie.
The workshop, warehouse and showroom complex includes a Chesney fireplace boutique, a range of working gas fires and a collection of woodburning stoves.
Commenting on the extent of the investment in the face of the current economic climate, the company’s sales and marketing manager, Nicola Flynn, said: “The message I have been getting loud and clear from architects, interior designers and developers in the last couple of years is that they want access to the best designs and the latest innovations in the fireplace market, especially demonstrated in surroundings where their clients can be inspired as well as getting sound technical advice.”
