Firm wages green war on bacteria

Two Bangor businessmen are going green with their latest cleaning initiative — an environmentally-friendly sanitising service.

Philip Allen and Lee Sutherland said their Enviroclean NI company started out as a standard cleaning company but they decided to go green as environmental concerns came more to the fore.

“We wanted to keep ahead and offer our clients something different and try and keep their carbon footprint down so we went down the environmentally-friendly route using green products and materials,” Mr Allen said.

But the biggest jump came when they sourced an ozone sanitising system for their Environment NI company — a way of neutralising bacteria and fungi without using disinfectants.

The systems could prove a vital weapon in hospitals’ battle against superbugs such as MRSA as it features activated oxygen gas which can seep into inaccessible crevices to carry out its sanitising work, Mr Allen said.

It could also be valuable for dental surgeries, children’s nurseries, restaurants, hotels and rental properties, he added.

“It’s an environmentally- friendly treatment that can eradicate bacteria and viruses such as MRSA. It can also completely sanitises toys and children’s play areas,” he said.

The system can be used, for example, in a rental house where there has been a heavy smoker.

The firm also offers wall-mounted systems which can be left to release a safe amount of ozone through the day keeping workplaces clean.
