Northern Ireland food and drink companies are to pitch for supply contracts in the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The 20 firms will be present at this week's International Food Exhibition (IFE) in London, presenting their products to The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
They are hoping to be in with a chance to be serving up some of the 14m plates of food served to visitors, media, VIPs, and athletes during the 2012 Games.
In addition to 11 companies on an Invest NI stand at IFE, products from a further four local food processors will be showing on their own stands including Dale Farm, Good4U, Silver Hill Foods, and Tayto.
Products from Pritchitts, Newtownards will be on the Lakeland stand, Moy Park poultry products will be seen in the Marfrig display and Lowe Refrigeration, Carryduff will be showing its display equipment.
Appearing at IFE for the first time, in the Invest NI stand, will be Alfees, a producer of sauces from Newtownards, and Fresh Food Kitchen, Londonderry, a supplier of salads, deli products and mayonnaise. Tyrone's Fivemiletown Creamery will also be visiting the show, now the leading UK event for food and drink.
Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI trade director, said that the organisers of the Games have made it clear that they wish to showcase regional food. and plan to ask the main catering organisations to source as much as possible from across the UK.
"This presents a marvellous opportunity for NI companies to benefit from this unique sporting event in the UK," she said.
