A DERRY technology company has pulled off a major coup by hiring the former social networking advisor to 10 Downing Street.
Dave Briggs has joined e-learning company Learning Pool, which provides a suite of products to the UK public sector.
Mr Briggs was until recently a consultant for Gordon Brown's Government, advising them on the potential application of social networking sites.
Mary McKenna of Learning Pool said his advice will help make the company into an international player. "Dave Briggs has been promoting the benefits of the use of social software at all levels of government, from work with small district councils to a very successful period consulting at 10 Downing Street," she said.
"The fact that someone with his knowledge and experience has committed to Learning Pool is a real boost for the company going forward."
Learning Pool provides online e-learning content, authoring technology, hosted platforms and consultancy to nearly 90% of councils in the public sector community in England and Wales.
Mr Briggs, who will work for the company in England, said he was passionate about the work Learning Pool does.
"The public sector is facing considerable challenges - largely due to the financial situation. This really ought to be seen as opportunity to change working practices and make the most of the efficiencies offered by emerging technology. Learning Pool are uniquely placed to help deliver these changes, being both technology and government savvy," he said.
Learners using the firm's products benefit as e-learning lets them study at their own pace. Its bite-sized chunks of learning can be fitted into busy schedules, it said.
