I heard through the grapevine a new deli takeaway had opened on Bridge Street in Belfast.
It is hard to miss Mikey's Deli, thanks to huge Statue of Liberty signage on the front.
The deli is a trendy Belfast-take on a New York-style deli. The interior is a children's paradise with toys from Star Wars, models of American President Barack Obama and basketball tops donning the walls.
The service was quick and friendly with the staff bubbling to be of assistance, offering recommendations and tasters of some of their most promising dishes.
My dining partner and I headed in to the unknown and we were not disappointed with our choices.
We shared the maple syrup pancakes to start, which were delicious.
I don't particularly like maple syrup but the pancakes were to die for.
For a main, I chose the Philly cheese steak sub which consisted of Irish beef, fried onions, cheese, salad and Mikey's barbecue cajun sauce and East Coast sauce.
The sub was so big I could barely finish it, but it was delicious.
My friend had a pastrami and salad sub, which she thoroughly enjoyed. To finish we shared a New York baked cheesecake, and this was definitely the highlight of the trip.
The family-owned deli only opened two weeks ago and the owner Michael Curran is working hard to build up his customer base.
Only fresh produce is used and with starters and breakfasts priced from £1.75 and the most expensive item on the menu costing £5, this is a real treat.
The small seated area offers free wifi for customers and the classic tunes playing in the background added to the retro feel.
Chef Francis Walsh has previously worked for Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre-White, which are feathers in anyone's cap.
